Thais Mather: Heretical Sect III (detail) 2017, watercolor, pen, and ink
Form & Concept, 435 S. Guadalupe St., 505-982-8111 Santa Fe-based artist Thais Mather’s exhibition Reckless Abandon continues through Feb. 10, 2018. The show consists of several large-scale installations that incorporate ceramics, drawings, video, and other mediums. The exhibit evolved from a series of woodblock prints depicting creatures that often inspire fear and loathing, such as spiders and snakes. Mather, who studied feminist theory, is inspired by the ways in which women have been treated in male-dominated societies. “Reckless Abandon is a call to action, not just for us to treat one another and our planet with care, but also for us to abandon what we think we know, in order to create a life of magic in the next phase of our evolution,” Mather writes in a statement.
