Slavic sounds: Cellist Joshua Roman
The dynamic cellist Joshua Roman appears as soloist in Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1 at the concert of the Santa Fe Symphony, Guillermo Figueroa conducting, at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 11, at the Lensic Performing Arts Center (211 W. San Francisco St.). Also on this all-Russian program are Glinka’s Ruslan and Ludmila Overture and selections from Tchaikovsky’s music for the ballet Swan Lake .On Friday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m., Roman offers a recital in the same hall, assisted by pianist Gilles Vonsattel, comprising sonatas by Beethoven (Op. 102, No. 1) and Brahms (Op. 99), plus Janác˘ek’s Pohádka and Pärt’s Fratres.
