Four-play: The Brentano String Quartet

Pasatiempo - - RANDOM ACTS -

The Brentano String Quartet served as the resident ensemble for the chamber-music trials of the 2017 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, where pianist Yekwon Sunwoo took first prize. The musicians reassemble for a performance sponsored by the Los Alamos Concert Association, at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28, at the Duane Smith Auditorium of Los Alamos High School (1300 Diamond Drive). Sunwoo plays Ravel’s La valse and a piece by Percy Grainger; the string players perform Bartók’s Quartet No. 2 and join him in Dvorˇák’s Piano Quintet, Op. 81. Tickets ($35) are available through ticketssantafe .org (505-988-1234). Since the concert coincides with the school’s homecoming football game, the Concert Association will open the hall at 6 p.m. and encourages attendees to arrive early to ensure parking. — J.M.K.
