New Mex­ico Mu­seum of Art, 107 W. Palace Ave., 505-476-5072 Through­out the 20th cen­tury, New Mex­ico was a cross­roads for artists at the fore­front of Amer­i­can art. They es­tab­lished com­mu­ni­ties of artists, founded artis­tic move­ments, cre­ated schools, and formed col­lab­o­ra­tives. Good Com­pany: Five Artist Com­mu­ni­ties in New Mex­ico ex­plores the en­dur­ing legacy of the Taos So­ci­ety of Artists, Los Cinco Pin­tores, Tran­scen­den­tal Paint­ing Group, Río Grande Painters, and the artists of the Stieglitz cir­cle. The show fea­tures works by Emil Bist­tram, Florence Miller Pierce, Ernest L. Blu­men­schein, and other iconic artists of New Mex­ico. The show opens Fri­day, Oct. 5, with a re­cep­tion at 5 p.m. The mu­seum is by ad­mis­sion and is free from 5 to 7 p.m. for New Mex­ico res­i­dents with I.D. on Fri­days through Oc­to­ber, and be­gin­ning in Novem­ber, on the first Fri­day of the month.
