Goose Island, British Columbia, is situated 80 nautical miles due north of Port Hardy and slightly southwest of Bella Bella on BC’s central coast. Due to the island’s exposure to all weather systems, the anchorage has poor protection, and should only be visited in calm weather. Our Malahide trawler, Explorer— subject of a cover story in PassageMaker’s April 2002 issue— can be seen anchored off in the distance. In the 10 years we’ve owned Explorer, she has taken us over 25,000 miles up and down the Inside Passage, from Skagway, Alaska, to Bellingham, Washington. Craig Hougen Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada
