Crozier lifts North­men to em­phatic road vic­tory

WAKE­FIELD — North Smith­field mid­fielder Ri­ley Crozier as­sisted on three goals and Michael Fer­nan­des added a goal and an as­sist to lead the North­men to a 5-0 Divi­sion II road vic­tory over strug­gling Prout Thurs­day af­ter­noon.

“This is fan­tas­tic for us,” thirdyear NS coach Eric Ko­ry­tkowski said. “This is the most goals we’ve scored since I’ve been here. The kids played well and now they have the con­fi­dence to score be­cause they saw the ball go into the net to­day.”

North Smith­field (1-1-1 Divi­sion II) scored the only goal it would need early in the first half when a Crozier free kick was headed past Kyle McCutcheon by for­ward Michael deRonde. Justin De­celles dou­bled the lead late in the half. Fer­nan­des, Danny Beau­chemin and Brian De­celles all scored in­surance goals in the sec­ond half.

Se­nior goalie Adam Blake­more recorded three saves for his sec­ond shutout in the last seven days.

The North­men are back in ac­tion Tues­day night at home against Westerly. goal in the 30th minute.

Mount St. Charles (1-1-1 Divi­sion II) cut its deficit in half in the 70th minute when se­nior for­ward Chris Ci­ullo ripped a 30-yard shot past Jose Paiva, but Justin Gar­gone iced the con­test with a goal five min­utes later.

“There were a lot of pos­i­tives to take away from this game, but we made a few de­fen­sive mis­takes,” Jac­ques said. “Dre Dan­neker played well and Ja­cob Mad­dalena is get­ting more vo­cal and he’s start­ing to pick up the speed of the game.”

Toll Gate comes to Woonsocket Tues­day at 4 p.m.

Villa No­vans sal­vage draw

JOHN­STON — The Woonsocket boys soccer team bat­tled back from a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 draw with John­ston Thurs­day night thanks to goals from ju­niors Hezekiah Adey­eye and Buba Joof.

John­ston jumped ahead in the seventh minute on a goal from Abra­ham Tam­bah and the Pan­ther scored again in the 30th to dou­ble the home side’s ad­van­tage.

Woonsocket (1-1-1 Divi­sion III) re­ceived a goal from Adey­eye with three min­utes left in the first half. And, 15 min­utes into the sec­ond half, the Villa No­vans se­cured a draw when Carlso Ponce found Diof for a goal.

The Villa No­vans will host de­fend­ing Divi­sion III cham­pion Davies Tech Mon­day af­ter­noon at Barry Field.
