BLACKSTONE VALLEY MEMORIES
Bill Masuck of Tolman was the individual winner clocking 15:56 over the 2.9-mile Slater Park cross country course, however, Saint Raphael Academy placed its first four runners in the next four positions to more than offset Masuck’s winning effort as the Saints handed the Tigers their first defeat 2136. Billy Burgess was second for SRA, Charlie Giuntini placed third and Bill Bannon and Jim Booth tied for fourth.
Dot Hawkins rolled a 360 three-string series and Olive MacCaskill captured the high single with 144 to lead all bowlers in the Blackstone Valley Women’s Duckpin League. Other leaders were MacCaskill 345, Stella Griffin 117322, Florence Williston 117-317, Gert Hoogasian 118-310, Dolly Pizzo 107-305, Cecile Connors 117-304, Harriet Quiletzech 107304, Jennie Chase 116-303, Carol Peckenham 107-303, Winnie Pendleton 106-303 and Carolyn Rochford 114-301.
Rebecca Provost scored two more goals and Liz Halloran tallied the opening goal and assisted on two second-half tallies as the unbeaten (6-0) Lincoln field hockey team tuned up for an important week with a 4-0 triumph over dangerous Woonsocket. Lions goalie Michelle Burgoyne notched her sixth straight shutout, turning aside two penalty strokes in the process. The victory by coach Kathy Tiberii’s squad set the stage for Wednesday’s match with Cumberland and Friday’s all-important showdown with unbeaten Burrillville.
