Bill Ma­suck of Tol­man was the in­di­vid­ual win­ner clock­ing 15:56 over the 2.9-mile Slater Park cross coun­try course, how­ever, Saint Raphael Academy placed its first four run­ners in the next four po­si­tions to more than off­set Ma­suck’s win­ning ef­fort as the Saints handed the Tigers their first de­feat 2136. Billy Burgess was sec­ond for SRA, Char­lie Gi­un­tini placed third and Bill Ban­non and Jim Booth tied for fourth.


Dot Hawkins rolled a 360 three-string se­ries and Olive MacCaskill cap­tured the high sin­gle with 144 to lead all bowlers in the Black­stone Val­ley Women’s Duck­pin League. Other lead­ers were MacCaskill 345, Stella Grif­fin 117322, Florence Wil­lis­ton 117-317, Gert Hoogasian 118-310, Dolly Pizzo 107-305, Ce­cile Con­nors 117-304, Har­riet Quilet­zech 107304, Jen­nie Chase 116-303, Carol Peck­en­ham 107-303, Win­nie Pendle­ton 106-303 and Carolyn Rochford 114-301.


Re­becca Provost scored two more goals and Liz Hal­lo­ran tal­lied the open­ing goal and as­sisted on two sec­ond-half tal­lies as the un­beaten (6-0) Lin­coln field hockey team tuned up for an im­por­tant week with a 4-0 tri­umph over dan­ger­ous Woonsocket. Lions goalie Michelle Bur­goyne notched her sixth straight shutout, turn­ing aside two penalty strokes in the process. The vic­tory by coach Kathy Tiberii’s squad set the stage for Wed­nes­day’s match with Cum­ber­land and Fri­day’s all-im­por­tant show­down with un­beaten Bur­ril­lville.
