Join the Little Sisters of the Poor at McCoy for PawSox Family Fun Day
PAWTUCKET — The Little Sisters of the Poor are hosting their annual PawSox Family Fun Day at McCoy Stadium on Sunday, Aug. 19.
The 13th annual outing begins at 11:30 a.m. with a pregame, summertime barbecue, after which fans can cheer for a Little Sister who will throw a ceremonial pitch just before the PawSox take the field for a 1:35 p.m. contest with the Durham Bulls
Later, guests can enjoy the voice of Sister Elizabeth as she shares her talents in singing God Bless America. Finally, after the game, everyone may join the Little Sisters on the field to run the bases.
“This annual event is a demonstration of the friendship between the PawSox and the Little Sisters of the Poor. We forever remember the late Ben Mondor, who was a good and generous friend to us. We are very grateful to the new ownership group of the PawSox for continuing this wonderful tradition” said Sister Mercy, the Mother Superior of the Home.
Tickets are $29 for adults and $15 for children under the age of 12 and include the allyou-can-eat BBQ and general admission tickets to the game. Tickets must be purchased in advance by Aug. 10 at littlesistersofthepoorpawtucket.org, or by calling Jeanne Jugan Residence at 401-305-4001.
Celebrating 150 years in America
The Little Sisters of the Poor are an international congregation of Roman Catholic women religious founded in France in 1839 by Saint Jeanne Jugan. Together with a diverse network of collaborators, they provide loving homes and compassionate care for the elderly in need in over 30 countries around the world. Trusting in God’s Providence and in the generosity of the public, their tireless and selfless works are sustained through the support and contributions of others.
The Little Sisters of the Poor have a rich 150 year history in the United States beginning with the first location in Brooklyn, New York in 1868. Their home in Rhode Island opened in Providence in 1881 and two years later moved to Pawtucket and is one of 27 homes in the US currently in operation.
Dedicating their lives in service to the elderly, the Little Sisters’ mission is manifested daily in their selfless, prayerful, and hospitable works. Available to Residents 24 hours a day, seven days a week, they are a constant presence with a steadfast commitment to those in their care in an environment that is, has been, and will remain a place of respect and love, an environment that promotes the sacredness and dignity of the human person, the Culture of Life.
September 2018 will mark 150 years of the Little Sisters of the Poor in the United States since the establishment of that first operation in Brooklyn – a rich history indeed.
