Bethettes still kicking up their heels 60 years later

Drill team’s uniforms unchanged since 1957

Nothing much has changed in the last 60 years when it comes to Bethel Park High School’s Bethettes.

The group performs and marches with the band during halftime of football games.

They’re not majorettes, though. The Bethettes are a drill team that marches using large pompoms called “shakers.”

The 38 current Bethettes also wear basically the same style uniform as the original girls wore in 1957.

The Bethettes, which were almost called the “Hawkettes” — because of the school’s mascot — were founded in 1957 by Donna Cartwright Soulakis and Barbara
