Five candidates now vying for Slippery Rock presidency

University’s second attempt to fill post

- By Bill Schackner

The list of candidates to become Slippery Rock University’s next president is down to five, and a search committee will host each individual for a campus visit and interviews beginning Sunday.

The five are in line to succeed Cheryl Norton, who retired from the presidency of the state-owned university at the end of June of last year. The visits, including sessions with faculty, students, staff and others, are staggered and each will take place over two days.

In October, the Council of Trustees at Slippery Rock was unable to reach consensus on two finalists to submit to the State System of Higher Education’s board of governors in Harrisburg. So the search was reopened with a reconstituted search committee that received 57 applications by the Dec. 31 deadline, according to the university.
