Reed Fischer, 10, of Butler County peers into a box containing the burial flag for Cpl. Ralph R. Fischer after staff at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum in Oakland returned the flag Tuesday to the Fischer family. Cpl. Fischer was killed on March 2, 1951, while serving in the Korean War. Reed’s father, Ralph J. Fischer, is named after his paternal uncle. The flag was found at a flea market in Tampa, Fla., and sent to the museum, where social media was used to reunite the Fischers with the flag.
