WAKE FOREST over Utah St by 11
Riding a 1-9 SU skein, the Aggies awoke from the dead last week with a 38-point win over Idaho State. Still, they’ve lost their last ten away games and are a shell of the moneymaking team they were from 2012-2014 (3011 SU and 25-12-1 ATS then). They board the airlines for the second time in three weeks, but today’s trip to Winston-Salem (NC) is decidely longer than their season-opening flight to Madison (WI). The Demon Deacons are quietly building a solid foundation under HC Dave Clawson as they’ve now won 9 of their last fifteen games. The new look of defensive coaches appears to be serving them well: the Deacs are allowing some yards (276.5 YPG) but foes have been unable to score; in fact, Wake Forest’s opponents have had to travel 32.5 yards to put a single point on the board! The problem today, though, is this is a dreaded Homecoming Favorite affair and the fact that Wake is as favorites of 13 or more points. We also expect the Aggies to bring a bit more offense to the party than did Boston College and Presbyterian earlier this season. Still, the Deacs look poised to claim another win… but Utah State flies home with the cash.
