CAROLINA over Buffalo by 10
As expected, the Panthers put on their postseason masks and kicked off the 2017 season in style with a convincing 23-3 win at San Francisco to ruin Kyle Shanahan’s debut with the Niners. In the process, Carolina managed to hold the Niners to 217 total yards. Meanwhile, new Buffalo boss Sean McDermott’s troops limited the lowly NY Jets to 214 yards in a 21-9 win in McDermott’s debut with the Bills. Before basking in the glow, though, McDermott should know that NFL new coaches away in Game Two, off a season opening win of 7 or more points, are just 5-14 SU and 5-13-1 ATS since 2000, including against foes off a win. We realize that Carolina QB Cam Newton has been a human piñata for much of his NFL career, having been sacked or hit 922 times since 2011 entering this season (FYI: Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson was second with 615). If it weren’t for the fact that the Panthers are 0-4 SUATS in their franchise history against AFC East opponents during the first half of the season (Games 1-8), we’d be on them like the rest of the league’s front seven on Newton. The bottom line is Carolina is in home openers and they on our radar this season. We’re not about to quit clocking them until they tell us otherwise.
