Ohio U over AKRON by 6
There’s no question that Week 12 on the college circuit lacks glamour as the only clash between teams in the Top 25 takes place in Big Ten country with Wisconsin hosting Michigan. At least, though, we rid ourselves of the MAC by Thursday for the second straight week! Yes, tonight’s opener in the Rubber City has some bounce as it likely decides the East (Ohio clinches the division with a win while Akron would only have to beat barefoot Kent State next Tuesday if they can top the Bobcats). However, like the majority of this week’s MAC card that’s loaded with double-digit road chalk, the oddsmakers still feel it will be a one-sided affair. That’s because despite being able to feast in the East, the Zips (5-5, 4-2) still need one more win to become bowl eligible and may be without the services of QB Thomas Woodson who was suspended (violation of team rules) minutes before last Tuesday’s 24-14 loss at Miami-Ohio. Lucky for them that gathering with Kent is still on the docket as series history (0-9 SU and 2-6-1 ATS last nine) also strongly suggests the surging Bobcats (4-0 SUATS last four) hang 10 on the Zips. So does our MIDWEEK ALERT which reminds us that the Bobbies have a huge edge in the stats as Ohio is +41 net YPG in FBS contests this season while Terry Bowden’s bunch (1-6 ‘ITS’ last seven) has been outgained by 165 YPG against FBS opposition. The Zips are also 1-6 ATS of late before their annual neighborhood battle with Kent. However, we suspect Woodson will play with the division on the line and we’ll take advantage of a spread that doesn’t reflect that as it’s gone up 3 full points – especially with the undervalued Zips riding a win skein. We suggest you do the same.
