VANDERBILT over Nevada by 12
A good number of cappers and players alike were taken behind the shed in last week’s stunning 35-7 Vanderbilt win over Middle Tennessee (public money pushed the line from Vandy -6.5 to -3 at closing). Halftime adjustments were the key: after MTSU QB Brent Stockstill lit up the Vanderbilt secondary by completing 10 of his first 12 passes for 100 yards in the first quarter alone, he was limited to just 78 yards passing in the second half. The Commies also outscored the Raiders 21-0 in quarters three and four, while the VU defense registered 6 sacks for the entire game and forced a pair of turnovers. Nevada has the look of an upstart squad in 2018, steamrolling Portland State, 72-19, in its season opener last week while piling up 636 yards of offense. The going will be a bit different against an SEC squad today, though. Vandy is an eye-opening
in Nashville versus in non-conference opponents the last seven-plus seasons, and those numbers look even better when we see the Wolf Pack’s timid 3-23 SU record in road openers. Look for the SEC to make it 12 wins in a row over the Mountain West Conference as Vanderbilt improves to 4-1 ATS of late as home chalk.
