DENVER over Seattle by 8
It could be a long year for devotees (like us) of Pete Carroll’s Seahawks. A changing of the guard appears in order as Seattle went winless in the preseason for the first time ever under Carroll, a perpetual money winner in NFLX games throughout his career until this year. Yes, we’ll likely find ourselves relying heavily on the talents of QB Russell Wilson, for sure. But at least today we’ll be joining the large legion of turncoats as we not only like Denver to win the AFC West but to also make it as far as the Super Bowl this season. It’s what the best defense in the league and steady play from a reliable quarterback can do for a team in a “mission year”. With 0-4 preseason teams that won 9 or more games the previous year just 6-13 ATS in season openers, and the Seahawks a long-suffering in road openers the last 13 years, look for QB Case Keenum to improve on his 9-3-2 ATS career mark at home in games in which he is not favored by 7 or more points – while the Broncos go to 31-4 SU and 22-10-3 ATS in home openers here today.
