There’s a cloud closing in on tonight’s contest from Winston-Salem, NC: it’s about 400 miles wide and its name is Florence. As we write this, the National Hurricane Center said Florence is expected to slam into the east coast around North and South Carolina as a Category 3 or 4 hurricane on Thursday or Friday. The storm’s winds had increased to 130 mph on Monday… meaning the chances of this game being played are rapidly moving towards slim and none. We’re sure Boston College will be disappointed, considering the Eagles have generated some ‘storm warning’ headlines of their own with a pair of tsunami-like victories to begin 2018. BC head coach Steve Addazio’s first 2-0 start since 2015 comes courtesy of a loaded offense averaging 59.5 points and 616 yards per game. That’s the good news. The bad news is the Eagles opened against Holy Cross and UMass. They’ve also failed EIGHT straight times as ACC road chalk of 4 or more points, and cashed only once in their previous six weekday game appearances. Wake Forest QB Sam Hartman gets his third (and perhaps final) start in relief of suspended Kendall Hinton, and he’s directed the Demon Deacons to a superbly balanced attack that’s tallied 255 rushing yards and 310 passing yards per contest. Add to the mix Wake’s 7-3 ATS success as a home dog of 3 or more points of late – plus a big shoutout in Marc’s column on page 2 – and we think it’s game on for the Deacs tonight. Weather permitting… Friday, September 14
