NEVADA over Oregon St by 1
Good for Beavers fans to know they weren’t totally beaten into submission by Ohio State in the season opener, as Oregon State had enough left in the tank to polish off a decent Southern Utah squad (9-3 LY), winning 48-25 in new head coach Jonathan Smith’s Corvallis debut last week. But it’s back to the road for the Beavers this evening when they head southeast to Reno. Skewed by the numbers from the Ohio State blowout, Smith’s squad has allowed 51 PPG and 655 YPG this season. The program he inherits, though, has cashed three straight tickets as a dog of more than 3 points versus MWC opponents. Meanwhile, the Wolf Pack were embarrassed at Vanderbilt in a 31-point loss last week and looked nothing like the team that lit up Portland State for 72 points in Game One. In fact, there was plenty of confusion on behalf of Nevada’s players and coaches, especially in the late stages of a second half shutout by Vandy. The Pack does get some good news in the form of their 8-1 ATS success following a double-digit ATS loss. However, that’s offset by a piddling 4-17 SU mark in games versus the Pac-12. Ultimately, the confidence-building win for Oregon State last week – only its second in the last 14 games – should give them enough juice to hang with a downin-the-mouth Nevada bunch.
