The Prince of Wales
Prince Edward VIII caused an uproar when he abdicated in 1936 to marry american socialite Wallis Simpson. there was less argument over his status as a style icon. In his leisure time he wore bespoke glen plaid check suits; for gala premiers he preferred midnight blue dinner jackets. the prince represented a new stylistic ideal that broke away from the old stale codes of dress. Not least he was a key figure in popularising the brogue, which the prince often wore during rounds of golf or in his later home – Villa Windsor in Neuilly-surSeine, Paris.
