Joseph Mills of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, won the 2017 Rose Post Creative Nonfiction Competition for his essay “On Hearing My Daughter Trying to Sing Dixie.” He received $1,000, and his essay will be considered for publication in Ecotone. Garrard Conley judged. The annual award is given for an essay that “is outside the realm of conventional journalism and has relevance to North Carolinians.” The next deadline is January 15, 2018.
