Four­teen years ago, the idea of watch­ing TV shows—let alone bing­ing them—via a stream­ing con­nec­tion was be­yond the av­er­age viewer. Xbox Live was first to of­fer in­ter­net-ac­ces­si­ble con­tent via a con­sole. To­day, nearly onequar­ter of all homes have a con­nected set­top box, such as a Roku or Ap­ple TV.
