HAMMOND — A hearing Tuesday morning on a sealed motion in Lake Station Mayor Keith Soderquist’s two criminal cases was itself sealed.

Attorneys could not comment on the hearing afterward, so it is unclear what was discussed.

The hearing was in re- sponse to a sealed motion that Scott King, Soderquist’s attorney, had filed several weeks ago.

Soderquist and his wife, Deborah, are charged with illegally using money from his campaign fund and money meant for the city’s food bank for personal gambling trips in one case. They are also charged in a second case along with Deborah Soderquist’s daughter, Miranda Brakley, who is charged with stealing money from the city when she worked there as a city court clerk.

Soderquist and his wife are accused of helping her after the fact.
