Kudos to Powder for showcasing a true hero (“Claire Smallwood is a Champion for Women,” 46.2). Claire works tirelessly and because of her efforts, more girls, boys, and women are gaining access to the outdoors.

I’m confused and dismayed by all the negative and defensive comments in response to this article by some male readers of Powder. If you think it’s as easy as ‘Just go buy a lift ticket,’ then why aren’t there more women in outdoor sports? There’s more to the equation and it has everything to do with privilege—of all kinds.

I personally grew up surrounded by mountains and nature but didn’t have the money to ski, the know-how, or someone to bring me along and show me what I was missing until much later in life. That’s what Shejumps does and I’m so grateful. It helps solve the problem of privilege and limited access to outdoor sports. Thank you to all the rad women and men who volunteer their time to help others—you guys make the world a better place!

Anna, we couldn’t agree more. Skiing is an incredible privilege, and we’re behind anyone working to bring that privilege to a more diverse array of people. Enjoy this kit from Patagonia. —Ed.
