“We refuse to sacrifice the quality of photography and stories in this magazine to fill an overt quota.” (“Our Photo Annual Only Has One Woman—that Needs to Change” 46.5) Come on, Powder. You wouldn’t have to sacrifice the quality of your photos in order to highlight at least a small handful of women athletes and photographers. This article is a sad list of rationalizations for your failures to empower women, then congratulating yourself for identifying the issue. You’re simply perpetuating the issue by falling into these stringent, patriarchal standards of what a ski shot should look like. Don’t write an article about what you can do. Tell us readers what you are actively doing and demanding of others in the industry. You are not a small voice. Do better.
