C-MAP Genesis Edge Premium Marine-Mapping Service
Starts at $99 per year; genesismaps.com
C-MAP Genesis is a free marine-mapping service (formerly known as Insight Genesis prior to Navico’s acquisition of C-MAP) that includes downloads of charts created from data boaters get from their integrated sounder and chartplotter and share via an Internet connection, called Social Maps. This crowd-sourced data multiplies the effectiveness of charting by using multiple sources. Now C-MAP is rolling out Genesis Edge, with its premium set of features for anglers, including the ability to secure chart data rather than share it with the Social Maps—your custom-made charts remain your own. Additionally, hard-core anglers can create map layers showing bottom hardness and underwater vegetation. These tools—which can be turned on and off, and used and manipulated by anglers to suit their needs—have the potential to change the fishing game. With capabilities like these being introduced in a widely expandable universe that is limited only by the imagination, consider the possibilities for charting in the future—to be both shared and kept private.
