Practical Horseman - - Winner’s Circle -

Eventer Boyd Martin made history in late January, finishing first on Welcome Shadow in the Land Rover Wellington Eventing Showcase at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in Florida. It was his third consecutive victory in the event, which has been held only three times. “This year was by far the hardest to win,” Martin said. “It was a much more competitive field and the caliber of horses was the best we’ve ever seen here.”

Aboard Craig and Gloria Callen’s 12-year-old Irish Sport Horse, Martin posted a score of 27.3, picking up just .8 time penalties on cross country. Buck Davidson and Petite Flower came in second with 30.9 and Doug Payne and Vandiver rounded out the top three with 34.2.
