Avoid the draw of the in-gate.

To be sure Au­tumn isn’t dis­tracted by the in-gate and tempted to drift to­ward it, I shave a lit­tle off my turn, plan­ning to ride slightly off the rail. As we ap­proach the in-gate, I raise the whip in my out­side hand and close my out­side leg firmly to dis­cour­age him from bulging his body in that di­rec­tion. At the same time, I turn his head slightly to the in­side and give a cluck. As a re­sult, we can­ter out of the turn in per­fect har­mony, both look­ing ahead to­ward the next jump.
