Blink your eyes. If you know you might panic in the ap­proach to a jump—by ei­ther kick­ing or pulling—es­tab­lish a good can­ter, set your track, then close both eyes long enough so that ev­ery­thing goes black, al­low­ing the rhythm to carry you for­ward. When you open them again, you will be more pre­pared to make any nec­es­sary small ad­just­ments rather than a ma­jor move.
