Let’s in­dulge our­selves with a lit­tle bit of nos­tal­gia. We’ve made a short list of some of the most iconic peo­ple, places, and things that have held a ma­jor spot in Amer­i­can cul­ture dur­ing our life­times. Even if these selec­tions didn’t res­onate with you when they reached their iconic sta­tus, they were im­pos­si­ble to be ig­nored then and now.

The stylish yet prac­ti­cal Ford Thun­der­bird, nick­named the T-Bird, made its daz­zling de­but in 1955 and con­tin­ued pro­duc­tion for the next half cen­tury. Con­sid­ered an all-Amer­i­can car, it was named af­ter the Na­tive Amer­i­can mytho­log­i­cal crea­ture, known for its great flap­ping wings, power, and strength.
