LSC-Tomball Veterinary Technology Program Receives Recognition for Work
Lone Star College-Tomball students were recognized on Jan. 26 when Lone Star College hosted the Charley Wootan Grant Reception at LSC-University Park to honor and recognize the Wootan grant recipients system-wide.
The Charley Wootan Grant Program provides post-secondary scholarships to students with financial need. Since 2000, the program has awarded more than $30 million to students in Texas and across the nation. Lone Star College received $100,000 to award 20 student scholarships over a two-year period. LSC-Tomball is one of the three Lone Star College campuses that participated in the program along with LSC-Cy-Fair and LSC-University Park.
The grant is named for Dr. Charley V. Wootan, former chairperson of the board for TG, a non-profit dedicated to pairing students with resources that allow them to reach their educational goals.
While many students were recommended and/or applied for the grant, only a handful qualified because of the stringent criteria, the academic achievement requirements, and commitment involved. The LSC-Tomball recipients of the Charley Wootan Grant were: Angely Alvarez, Isai Angelina, Vannessa Araniva, Claudia Laguna, Ana Duran, Cynthia Romero, Maria Gonzalez-Trevino, Dereje Mikell, Edwin Hernandez, Guadalupe Sanchez, and Jennifer Swanson.
