Public News (Houston) - - PUBLIC NEWS EVENTS -

This is the year to enhance your own appreciation of the arts, as well as your family's at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. The 2017 performing arts season includes nine Houston Symphony performances, a full production of “The Elixir of Love” by Houston Grand Opera and Houston Ballet will feature the full production of the classic “Madame Butterfly.”

On June 9, be treated to a concert and movie in one with the world premiere of Matilda In Concert. Famed film composer David Newman will conduct the Houston Symphony in his dazzling musical score live and in sync with the cult classic film on The Pavilion's Main Stage.

Steven Reineke, Principal POPS Conductor and the Houston Symphony will premiere a brand-new orchestra show created for Houston-native band The Suffers June 17. The popular hometown band brings a fresh approach to what they have coined Gulf Coast Soul.

For those looking to learn more about the orchestra, on July 8, “Symphonic Sights & Sounds,” will serve as an introduction to popular classical favorites enhanced by large scale images on The Pavilion's LED screens. Then the everpopular book by Lemony Snicket, “The Composer is Dead” will come to life on July 19.

After the incredibly positive response to the John Williams tribute in 2016, the show will return with added selections on September 6. For the full performing arts schedule, including traditional favorites Star-Spangled Salute, Hocus Pocus Pops and Holly Jolly Jingle visit woodlandscenter.org.

At most performing arts events, mezzanine and lawn seating is free. Orchestra seating for most events is $20. Guests are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy in their seat or on the lawn. Keep in mind that beverages cannot be brought into The Pavilion. Sitting on the lawn? Chairs also are provided free at all performing arts events.
