Scheme ... Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing a “pi­geon drop scheme” that oc­curred March 5 at Walmart, lo­cated at 100 E. Street Road. An el­derly woman was ap­proached by a black fe­male in her 40s with a stocky build and long black hair. She was wear­ing a tan jacket, brown pants, scarf and gloves while car­ry­ing a hand­bag with “District 21” on it, po­lice said. The woman claimed to be an em­ployee of a lo­cal bank and used the name “Gale.” The woman claimed she found the bag and asked the el­derly vic­tim if she knew who the bag be­longed to. In­side the bag was a large amount of cash.

The woman con­vinced the el­derly vic­tim that they could split the money if they FRuOG nRW finG WKH RwnHU, SRlice said. The woman then con­vinced the el­derly vic­tim to with­draw $11,000 from her bank ac­count and of­fered to put the money in the trunk of the el­derly woman’s car while she went to her bank to see about split­ting the found money. The woman never re­turned and the el­derly vic­tim checked her trunk and the $11,000 and hand­bag were gone, po­lice said. The woman is not as­so­ci­ated with any lo­cal banks.

Po­lice are ask­ing that res­i­dents be aware of this WySH RI FRn­fiGHnFH VFDP DV it usu­ally in­volves a large amount of found money or other valu­able ob­ject and may in­volve more than one per­son. Res­i­dents should be skep­ti­cal if ap­proached by a stranger about found money and should call 911 im­me­di­ately.
