tcelona@montgomerynews.com Police are on the lookout for a man who fired two shots during an attempted bank robbery in Abington Township early Saturday morning.

The incident occurred at 6:45 a.m. March 23 at TD Bank, which is located at 2900 Moreland Road in the Willow Grove section of the township, according to police.

As an employee arrived for work, a second employee already inside went to unlock the door to allow the employee to enter, but a masked man dressed all in black and carrying a handgun rushed up at that moment and attempted to enter the bank, according to police. The two employees closed the door and locked it with the gunman still outside, but the man shot the front glass door and entered the bank.

While one employee was able to escape out a back door, the man grabbed the other employee and dragged him into the rear of the bank, according to police. A second shot was fired inside the bank. The man proceeded to threaten the employee before leaving without getting any money.

Both employees suffered superficial injuries that did not require treatment, according to police. There were no customers or other employees in the bank at the time.

Police described the gunman as a black male who was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood up and a black mask that covered most of his face.

The man fled in a midsize black SUV with chrome wheels headed south on Fitzwatertown Road before immediately taking a right onto Oklahoma Road, and a second person was in the vehicle, according to police.

Anyone who may have seen the vehicle in that area between 6:15 and 7 a.m. is asked to contact the Abington Police Department by calling 267-536-1100 or the FBI by calling 215-418-4000.
