Floral Garden 8. 7. COMPLETING THE LEAF/ STEM BLOCKS Join the two leaf units with the E strip to complete one Leaf/Stem block referring to Figure 6; press seams toward E. Repeat step 6 to complete a total of 24 Lollipop Flower blocks. 1. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of each D square. Place a D square on opposite upper and lower corners of a C rectangle and stitch on the marked lines as shown in Figure 2. COMPLETING THE QUILT 1. Arrange and join the four plain A squares with three Lollipop Flower blocks to make row 1 referring to Figure 9; press seams toward the Lollipop Flower blocks. 2. E Figure 6 Row 1 31/ 2" 9. Trim 1/4" beyond stitching lines and press D to the right side to complete a C-D unit as shown in Figure 3. Arrange and join the Lollipop Flower and Leaf/Stem blocks in seven rows of seven blocks each, referring to the Assembly Diagram for positionin­g of blocks; press seams toward Lollipop Flower blocks. 1. Use a serger to finish both edges of each bias strip, using thread to match fabrics. Note: If not using a serger, finish edges with an over- edge machine stitch. 4" 1/ D C 2. Note: The bottom row consists of all Leaf/Stem blocks. Remaining six rows alternate Leaf/Stem blocks with Lollipop Flower blocks. Run a line of gathering stitches through the center of each strip using thread to match fabric as shown in Figure 7. Figure 3 4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to complete a total of 28 C-D units. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to complete 28 reverse C-D units placing the D squares on the top left and bottom right corners of C as shown in Figure 4. 5. 3. Join the rows beginning with row 1 and adding remaining rows referring to the Assembly Diagram to complete the pieced center; press. Join the F/G strips on short ends to make a long strip; press. Subcut strip into two 21/2" x 561/2" F strips and two 21/2" x 531/2" G strips. Sew F strips to opposite long sides and G strips to the top and bottom of the pieced center; press seams toward strips. Join the H/I strips on short ends to make a long strip; press. Subcut strip into two 41/2" x 601/2" H strips and two 41/2" x 611/2" I strips. Sew H strips to opposite long sides and I strips to the top and bottom of the pieced center; press seams toward H and I strips. Create a quilt sandwich referring to Quilting Basics on page 110. Quilt as desired. Bind referring to Quilting Basics on page 110. Figure 7 3. Pull thread to gather each bias strip to make 22" long strips. Starting in the center, mark a curving 5" spiral on each of the 24 A squares using the spiral pattern given. Select one marked square and one gathered bias strip. Turn under one raw end of the gathered bias strip and pin to hold. Starting in the center of the marked A square, pin a gathered strip with the turned-under end at the center on the marked spiral; stitch through the center of the strip with thread to match the strip to complete a Lollipop Flower block referring to Figure 8. 4. 4.
