SPECIFICAT­IONS Skill Level: Intermedia­te Runner Size: 40" x 14" From black solid: MATERIALS COMPLETING THE PIECED UNITS • • • • • • • • • • • Scrap orange tonal 1 fat eighth gray tonal* 1/2 yard red print* 1/2 yard black solid* 7/8 yard white print* Backing to size Batting to size* Thread Template material 1/3 yard fusible web* Basic sewing tools and supplies • Cut 2 (21/2" by fabric width) strips. Trim strips to make 2 (21/2" x 24") J strips. Cut 3 (21/4" by fabric width) binding strips. 1. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of each B and C square. Referring to Figure 2, place a B square right sides together on one corner of A; stitch on the marked line, trim seam to 1/4" and press B to the right side. • 2. From white print: • Cut 1 (141/2" by fabric width) strip. Subcut strip into 1 (141/2" x 271/2") K rectangle and 20 (21/2") B squares. Cut 2 (41/2" by fabric width) strips. Subcut strips into 2 each 41/2" x 20" I strips and 41/2" x 10" H strips, 1 (27/8") G square and 1 (31/4") F square. Cut the G square in half on 1 diagonal to make 2 G triangles. Cut the F square on both diagonals to make 4 F triangles; discard 2. 4" 1/ • B A A B *Fabric from Hoffman California- Internatio­nal Fabrics; Fusi-Boo batting from Fairfield; HeatnBond fusible web used to make sample. Figure 2 3. Repeat step 2 on the opposite end of A to complete one A-B unit as shown in Figure 3; press. CUTTING Prepare flower and flower center pieces for fusible appliqué using patterns given and referring to Raw- Edge Fusible Appliqué on page 12. B Unit Make 10 A- 4" 1/ B AB A CUTTING THE K PIECE Figure 3 From gray tonal: 1. Lay the K rectangle right side up on a flat surface. Measure over 141/2" from the bottom left corner and mark. Repeat from the top right corner. Draw a line from the marks to the corners as shown in Figure 1; trim on the lines to make the K piece. 4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to complete a total of 10 A-B units. Referring to Figure 4, place a C square right sides together on a D square. Stitch 1/4" on each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line and press open to make two C-D units. • Cut 1 (27/8" x 20") strip. Subcut strip into 6 (27/8") C squares. Cut 1 square in half on 1 diagonal to make 2 C triangles. 2. 5. From red print: • Cut 1 (27/8" by fabric width) strip. Subcut strip into 5 (27/8") D squares. Cut 1 (41/2" by fabric width) strip. Subcut strip into 10 (21/2" x 41/2") A rectangles and 1 (31/4") square.
