Pick a Bouquet 4. COMPLETING THE SQUARE CORNERS BLOCKS Sew D to E along the diagonal to make a D-E unit; press seam toward D. Repeat to make a total of 40 D-E units. Sew one D-E unit to C to make a C-D-E unit as shown in Figure 3; press seam toward C. Repeat with D-E and F, again referring to Figure 3; press seam toward F. Row Make 2 Y 1. Mark a diagonal line from corner to corner on all H squares. Place an H square right sides together on each corner of G and stitch on the marked lines as shown in Figure 6; trim seams to 1/4" and press H to the right side to complete one Square Corners block. Figure 9 5. 2. 4. Join one Weathervan­e Star block with two Square Corners blocks and two I rectangles to complete a Z row as shown in Figure 10; press seams away from the Weathervan­e Star block. To complete one Weathervan­e Star block, sew a B-C unit to opposite sides of A to make the center row as shown in Figure 4; press seams toward A. Figure 6 Figure 10 7. 3. 5. Repeat step 2 to complete a total of four Square Corners blocks. Referring to the Placement Diagram, arrange and join the X, Y and Z rows to complete the pieced top; press seams in one direction. Prepare templates for appliqué pieces given; trace shapes onto the right side of fabrics using a water- soluble marker or pencil as directed on patterns for color; cut out shapes, adding a 1/8"–1/4" seam allowance all around. Turn seam allowance to the wrong side along marked lines; baste to hold. Remove marks. 8. COMPLETING THE QUILT 1. 6. Sew H to two corners of I as in Step 2 of Completing the Square Corners Blocks to complete an H-I unit as shown in Figure 7; repeat to make a total of eight H-I units. A Figure 4 I H 9. 7. Arrange flower and leaf motifs in the white background areas of the pieced top referring to the Placement Diagram for suggested positionin­g; hand-stitch motifs in place using thread to match fabric, stuffing a tiny bit of fiberfill behind each flower center before final stitching to complete the quilt top. Create a quilt sandwich referring to Quilting Basics on page 110. Quilt as desired. Bind edges referring to Quilting Basics on page 110 to finish. X Row Make 2 Figure 5 10.
