Subcut strips into 30 (21/2" x 51/2") D strips. Cut 2 (91/2" by fabric width) strips. Subcut strips into 30 (21/2" x 91/2") E strips. Cut 7 (23/4" by fabric width) I/J strips. Cut 7 (21/4" by fabric width) binding strips. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Nine-Patch 9" x 9" Finished Block Make 15 COMPLETING THE NINE- PATCH BLOCKS E 1. Sew an A strip between two B strips with right sides together along length to make a B-A-B strip set; press seams toward A. Repeat to make a second strip set. Subcut the B-A-B strip sets into 15 (31/2" x 91/2") B-A-B units as shown in Figure 1. D C CUTTING 2. Prepare templates for the butterfly pieces using patterns given. Cut as directed on each pattern referring to Raw-Edge Fusible Appliqué on page 12. Framed Square 9" x 9" Finished Block Make 15 B-A-B Unit Cut 15 31/ 2" From aqua print: 5. To complete one Nine-Patch block, select one B-A-B unit and two A-B-A units. Sew the B-A-B unit between the A-B-A units to complete one Nine-Patch block as shown in Figure 3; press.
