Join the appliquéd A strips with the B strips to complete the pieced center; press. Arrange and fuse small flowers and stitch in place on the lower edge of A and on B, referring to Completing the Appliqué. Join the D strips on the short ends to make one long strip; press. Subcut strip into two 21/2" x 491/2" D strips. Sew C strips to the top and bottom of the pieced center and D strips to opposite long sides; press. Join the E/F strips on the short ends to make one long strip; press. Subcut strip into two each 5" x 44" E strips and 5" x 581/2" F strips. Sew the E strips to the top and bottom and F strips to opposite long sides to complete the quilt top; press. Create a quilt sandwich referring to Quilting Basics on page 110. Quilt as desired. Cut 6 (5" by fabric width) E/F strips. 1. COMPLETING THE APPLIQUÉ Refer to Raw-Edge Fusible Appliqué on page 12 as needed to complete the fusible appliqué. Motifs may be assembled on the appliqué pressing sheet before applying to the background. Referring closely to the quilt photo and the Assembly Diagram, arrange and fuse pinwheel and petal flowers, tulips, leaves, stems and butterfly motifs on A strips, starting with stems, then flowers and flower centers, overlapping pieces as necessary and inserting two long leaves under each tulip before fusing. Vary the length and curving direction of the stems. Using variegated thread and a narrow machine blanket stitch, stitch all around each fused shape to secure.
