Floral Garden 4. 7. COMPLETING THE CACTUS 2 BLOCKS Sew D strips to opposite sides and E strips to the top and bottom of the pieced center; press. Join the F strips on the short ends to make one long strip; press. Subcut the strip into four 41/2" x 501/2" F strips. Sew F strips to opposite sides of the pieced center; press. Sew a G square to each end of each remaining F strip; press. Sew the F-G strips to the top and bottom of the pieced center; press. Sew the H strips to opposite sides and I strips to the top and bottom of the pieced center to complete the quilt top; press. Create a quilt sandwich referring to Quilting Basics on page 110. Quilt as desired. Bind edges referring to Quilting Basics on page 110 to finish. 1. To complete one Cactus 2 block, select one each A and B rectangle and C square. Sew A to B to complete an A-B unit, again referring to Figure 1. Place one C square on the upper left corner of B and repeat steps 4 and 5 of Completing the Cactus 1 Blocks to complete one Cactus 2 block as shown in Figure 4. 5. 8. 2. 6. 9. 10. 3. QW 4" 1/ I FG H E D Figure 4 4. Repeat steps 1–3 to complete a total of 32 Cactus 2 blocks. COMPLETING THE QUILT Refer to the Assembly Diagram as needed to complete the quilt top. Arrange and join four each Cactus 1 and Cactus 2 blocks to make a block row; press. Repeat to make a total of eight block rows. Join the block rows to complete the pieced center, turning every other row; press. Join the D/E/H/I strips on the short ends to make one long strip; press. Subcut the strip into two each 11/2" x 481/2" D strips, 11/2" x 501/2" E strips, 11/2" x 581/2" H strips and 11/2" x 601/2" I strips. 1. 2. Cactus Garden Assembly 3.
