Floral Garden 15. 2. 6. Select four corner units, four F-J units and one center unit to complete one Garden Patch 2 block referring to steps 9–13 and Figure 11. Repeat to make a total of four Garden Patch 2 blocks. Select and join one Cream Snowball block and two each Green Snowball and Garden Patch 4 blocks to make an X row, again referring to Figure 12; press seams away from the Garden Patch 4 blocks. Repeat to make a second X row. Select and join one Garden Patch 2 block and two each Cream Snowball and Garden Patch 4 blocks to make a Y row, again referring to Figure 12; press seams toward the Cream Snowball blocks. Repeat to make a second Y row. Select two Garden Patch 2 blocks and three Cream Snowball blocks to make a Z row, again referring to Figure 12; press seams toward the Cream Snowball blocks. Sew a Y row to opposite sides of the Z row; add an X row to the Y rows and then a W row to the X rows to complete the pieced center referring to Figure 13; press seams in one direction. Sew a K strip to the top and bottom of the pieced center; press seams toward K strips. Join the L strips on the short ends to make one long strip; press seams open. Subcut strip into two 431/2" L strips. 7. Note: If your fabric is 431/2" wide, no piecing will be necessary for these strips. Garden Patch 2 Garden Patch 3 Garden Patch 4 Make 4 Make 4 Make 8 3. 8. Sew an L strip to opposite long sides of the pieced center; press seams toward L strips. Join the M strips on the short ends to make one long strip; press seams open. Repeat to make a total of four Garden Patch 3 blocks. Sew an M strip to opposite long sides and N strips to the top and bottom of the pieced center; press seams toward M and N strips. Sew an O strip to the top and bottom of the pieced center; press seams toward O strips. Join the P strips on the short ends to make one long strip; press seams open. Subcut strip into two 531/2" P strips. Sew a P strip to opposite long sides of the pieced center; press seams toward P strips. Create a quilt sandwich referring to Quilting Basics on page 110.
