Harvest Haunts
The not-so-scary bats and pumpkins on this table runner will add charm to any dining room.
MATERIALS
• 1 fat eighth each brown check
and green tonal • 1/8 yard orange print • 1/4 yard orange texture • 5/8 yard black print • 2/3 yard white-with-black dots • 7/8 yard green/white print • Backing to size • Batting to size • Thread • 1/4 yard lightweight fusible web • Basic sewing tools and supplies
CUTTING
Prepare templates for leaf and stem pieces using patterns given. Cut as directed on each piece and referring to Raw-Edge Fusible Appliqué on page 88. From orange print: • Cut 2 (11/2" by fabric width) strips. Subcut strips into 8 (11/2" x 61/2")
K strips. From orange texture: • Cut 1 (21/2" by fabric width) strip. Subcut strip into 4 (21/2" x 61/2")
L strips and 2 (11/2" x 61/2") J strips. • Cut 1 (11/2" by fabric width) strip. Subcut strip into 6 (11/2" x 61/2")
J strips (8 total). From black print: • Cut 1 (9" by fabric width) strip. Subcut strip into 2 (41/2" x 9") A strips, 4 (31/2" x9") C strips and 4 (2") G squares. • Cut 4 (11/2" by fabric width) strips. Trim 1 strip to make 2 (11/2" x 141/2") Q strips. Set aside remaining strips for P. From white-with-black dots: • Cut 1 (2" by fabric width) strip. Subcut strip into 4 (2" x 31/2") H rectangles, 2 (2" x 41/2") F rectangles and 8 (2") E squares. • Cut 1 (31/2" by fabric width) strip. Subcut strip into 4 each 31/2" D
and 21/2" B squares. • Cut 1 (121/2" by fabric width) strip. Subcut strip into 1 (121/2" x 161/2") O rectangle, 4 (21/2" x 61/2") N strips, 4 (11/2" x 101/2") I strips and 16 (11/2") M squares. From green/white print: • Cut 4 (21/2" by fabric width) strips. Trim 1 strip to make 2 (21/2" x 181/2") S strips. Set aside remaining strips for R. • Cut 5 (21/4" by fabric width)

COMPLETING THE BAT BLOCKS
1. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of each B,D, E and G square. 2. Referring to Figure 1, place an E square right sides together on one corner of C and stitch on the marked line. Trim seam allowance to 1/4" and press E to the right side. Repeat on the adjacent corner of C as shown in Figure 2. Repeat to make a total of four C-E units.
