• 5/8 yard gold batik • 5/8 yard medium brown batik • 7/8 yard bur­gundy batik • 12/3 yards turquoise batik • 21/4 yards or­ange batik • 21/2 yards leaf print batik • 22/3 yards dark green batik • 91/4 yards back­ing • Bat­ting 95" x 108" • Thread • Ba­sic sewing tools and sup­plies

CUT­TING

From gold batik: • Cut 6 (3" by fab­ric width) A strips. From medium brown batik: • Cut 6 (3" by fab­ric width) strips.

Sub­cut into 84 (3") F squares. From bur­gundy batik: • Cut 7 (33/8" by fab­ric width) strips.

Sub­cut into 84 (33/8") E squares. From turquoise batik: • Cut 7 (33/8" by fab­ric width) strips. Sub­cut into 84 (33/8") squares. Cut each square in half on 1 di­ag­o­nal to make 168 H tri­an­gles. • Cut 9 (21/2" by fab­ric width) J/K strips. From or­ange batik: • Cut 6 (57/8" by fab­ric width) strips. Sub­cut into 42 (57/8") squares. Cut each square in half on 1 di­ag­o­nal to make 84 G tri­an­gles. • Cut 3 (3" by fab­ric width) strips.

Sub­cut into 42 (3") I squares. • Cut 9 (21/2" by fab­ric width) L/M strips. From leaf print batik: • Cut 12 (3" by fab­ric width) B1 strips. • Cut 6 (3" by fab­ric width) strips.

Sub­cut into 84 (3") B2 squares. • Cut 7 (33/8" by fab­ric width) strips.

Sub­cut into 84 (33/8") D squares. From dark green batik: • Cut 12 (3" by fab­ric width) C strips. • Cut 9 (21/2" by fab­ric width) N/O strips. • Cut 10 (21/4" by fab­ric width)

bind­ing strips.

COM­PLET­ING THE BLOCKS

1. Draw a di­ag­o­nal line from cor­ner to cor­ner on the wrong side of each D square. 2. Re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 1, place a D square right sides to­gether with an E square. Stitch 1/4" on each side of the marked line; cut apart on the marked line and press units open to make two D-E units. Re­peat with all D and E squares to make a to­tal of 168 D-E units. 3. Sew an A strip to a B1 strip to a C strip to make an A-B-C strip set. Re­peat to make six strip sets. 4. Sub­cut the A-B-C strip sets into 84 (3"x 8 ") A-B-C seg­ments re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 2. 5. Sew a B1 strip to a C strip to make a B-C strip set; re­peat to make a to­tal of six strip sets. 6. Sub­cut the B-C strip sets into 84 (3" x 51/2") B-C seg­ments re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 3.

7. To com­plete one Au­tumn in the Coun­try block, sew H to B2 to make a B-H unit as shown in Fig­ure 4; re­peat.

8. Sew H to op­po­site sides of I to make an H-I unit re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 5.

9. Sew a B-H unit to op­po­site sides of the H-I unit and add G to make the cen­ter unit as shown in Fig­ure 6.

10. Sew a B-C seg­ment to a D-E unit to make a side unit as shown in Fig­ure 7; re­peat to make a sec­ond side unit.

11. Sew a side unit to op­po­site sides of the cen­ter unit to com­plete the cen­ter row re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 8.

12. Sew a D-E unit to the C end of an A-B-C seg­ment and add F to the E side to make the top row re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 9. Re­peat to make the bot­tom row.

13. Sew the top and bot­tom rows to the cen­ter row to com­plete one Au­tumn in the Coun­try block re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 10.

14. Re­peat steps 7–13 to com­plete a to­tal of 42 Au­tumn in the Coun­try blocks.

COM­PLET­ING THE QUILT

1. Ar­range and join six Au­tumn in the Coun­try blocks to make a row re­fer­ring to the Assem­bly Di­a­gram; re­peat to make seven rows.

2. Join the rows, turn­ing ev­ery other row re­fer­ring to the Assem­bly Di­a­gram, to com­plete the pieced cen­ter.

3. Join the J/K strips to make a long strip; sub­cut strip into two 21/2" x 88" J strips and two 21/2" x 791/2" K strips. Sew the J strips to op­po­site sides and K strips to the top and bot­tom of the pieced cen­ter.

4. Join the L/M strips to make a long strip; sub­cut strip into two 21/2" x 92" L strips and two 21/2" x 831/2" M strips. Sew the L strips to op­po­site sides and M strips to the top and bot­tom of the pieced cen­ter.

5. Join the N/O strips to make a long strip; sub­cut strip into two 21/2" x 96" N strips and two 21/2" x 871/2" O strips. Sew the N strips to op­po­site sides and O strips to the top and bot­tom of the pieced cen­ter to com­plete the quilt top.

6. Cre­ate a quilt sand­wich re­fer­ring to Quilt­ing Ba­sics on page 110. 7. Quilt as de­sired. 8. Bind re­fer­ring to Quilt­ing Ba­sics on page 110 to fin­ish.
