or­ange/yel­low prints or batiks • 22 as­sorted 41/2" A squares cream

prints or batiks • 1 fat eighth each yel­low/or­ange, gold/or­ange, or­ange/red, green and gold/brown prints or batiks • 1/ 8 yard red/or­ange batik • 1/4 yard yel­low/gold batik • 3/ 8 yard yel­low/or­ange check batik • 1/2 yard black batik • Back­ing to size • Bat­ting to size • Thread • 7/ 8 yard 17"-wide fusi­ble web* • 1 pack­age black 1/4"- wide baby

rick­rack* • Tem­plate ma­te­rial • Ba­sic sewing tools and sup­plies *Won­der-Un­der® fusi­ble web from Pel­lon; Wrights baby rick­rack used to make sam­ple.

CUT­TING

Pre­pare the appliqué pieces for fusi­ble appliqué us­ing pat­terns given and re­fer­ring to Raw-Edge Fusi­ble Appliqué on page 30. From red/or­ange batik: • Cut 3 (1" by fab­ric width) B/C strips. Sub­cut 1 strip into 2 (1" x 91/2") C strips. Set aside re­main­der of strip and re­main­ing strips for B. From yel­low/gold batik: • Cut 3 (11/2" by fab­ric width) D/E strips. Sub­cut 1 strip into 2 (11/2" x 111/2") E strips. Set aside re­main­der of strip and re­main­ing strips for D. From yel­low/or­ange check batik: • Cut 4 (21/4" by fab­ric width) bind­ing strips. From black batik: • Cut 4 (31/2" by fab­ric width) F/G strips. Sub­cut 1 strip into 2 (31/2" x 171/2") G strips. Set aside re­main­der of strip and re­main­ing strips for F.

COM­PLET­ING THE RUN­NER BACK­GROUND

Re­fer to the Place­ment Di­a­gram as needed for all con­struc­tion steps. 1. Ar­range and join 11 A squares side to side to make an A strip; press. Re­peat to make a sec­ond A strip. 2. Join the two A strips to com­plete the pieced cen­ter; press. 3. Join the B strips on the short ends to make one long strip; press. Sub­cut strip into two 1" x 441/2" B strips. 4. Sew B strips to op­po­site long sides and C strips to each short end of the pieced cen­ter; press. 5. Re­peat step 3 with the D strips to cut two 11/2" x 451/2" D strips. Sew D strips to op­po­site long sides and E strips to the short ends of the pieced cen­ter; press. 6. Re­peat step 3 with the F strips to cut two 31/2" x 471/2" F strips. Sew F strips to op­po­site long sides and G strips to the short ends of the pieced cen­ter to com­plete the run­ner back­ground; press.

COM­PLET­ING THE APPLIQUÉ & RUN­NER

Re­fer to the Place­ment Di­a­gram as needed. 1. Ar­range and fuse the pre­pared pump­kin mo­tifs and leaf pieces on the run­ner back­ground, us­ing the iron tip to fuse just the cen­ter of each piece while leav­ing outer edges un­fused. 2. Re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 1, tuck the rick­rack un­der the un­fused edges of the fused pieces, curv­ing the rick­rack and trim­ming to size as de­sired; pin to hold. 3. Stitch the rick­rack pieces in place through the cen­ter of the rick­rack as shown in Fig­ure 2.

4. Fuse the edges of the appliqué pieces in place all around to cover the ends of the rick­rack.

5. Stitch edges of fused shapes in place re­fer­ring to Raw-Edge Fusi­ble Appliqué.

6. Cre­ate a quilt sand­wich re­fer­ring to Quilt­ing Ba­sics on page 94. 7. Quilt as de­sired. 8. Stitch vein lines on leaves as marked on the pat­tern. Add in­den­ta­tion lines on the pump­kins as de­sired.

9. Bind edges re­fer­ring to Quilt­ing Ba­sics on page 94 to fin­ish.
