MA­TE­RI­ALS

• 1 (21/2" x 40") strip each 8–10 as­sorted au­tumn- color metal­lic prints or 72 (21/2") K squares

• 1 fat eighth each 4 au­tumn- color metal­lic leaf prints

• 5/ 8 yard brown tonal

• 11/ 8 yards cream tonal

• Back­ing to size

• Bat­ting to size

• Thread

• Ba­sic sewing tools and sup­plies

CUT­TING

From 21/2" x 40" strips:

• Sub­cut strips into a to­tal of 72 (21/2") K squares. From each leaf print:

• Cut 1 (31/ 8" x 20") strip. Sub­cut strip into 2 (31/ 8") B squares and 3 (23/4") C squares. From brown tonal:

• Cut 1 (3" by fab­ric width) strip. Sub­cut strip into 1 (3") H square and 4 (23/4") E squares.

• Cut 1 (21/2" by fab­ric width) strip.

Sub­cut strip into 16 (21/2") M squares.

• Cut 4 (21/4" by fab­ric width) bind­ing strips. From cream tonal:

• Cut 1 (31/ 8" by fab­ric width) strip. Sub­cut strip into 8 (31/ 8") A squares and 6 (21/4") F squares.

• Cut 1 (3" by fab­ric width) strip. Sub­cut strip into 4 (3" x 71/4") G strips and 4 (23/4") D squares. • Cut 2 (11/2" by fab­ric width) strips. Sub­cut strips into 2 each 11/2" x 161/2" I

and 11/2" x 181/2" J strips.

• Cut 8 (21/2" by fab­ric width) strips. Sub­cut strips into 4 each 21/2" x 221/2" N and 21/2" x 301/2" O strips, 16 (21/2") L squares and 2 (21/4") F squares (8 to­tal).

COM­PLET­ING THE BLOCKS

1. Draw a di­ag­o­nal line from cor­ner to cor­ner on the wrong side of each A and F square.

2. Re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 1, place an A square right sides to­gether with a B square and stitch 1/4" on each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line and press open to make two A-B units. Re­peat to make a to­tal of 16 A-B units (four of each fab­ric).

3. Re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 2, place an F square right sides to­gether on one cor­ner of an E square and stitch on the marked line; trim seam al­lowance to 1/4" and press to the right side.

4. Re­peat step 3 with a sec­ond F square on the op­po­site cor­ner of E to com­plete an E-F unit, again re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 2.

5. Re­peat steps 3 and 4 to com­plete a to­tal of four E-F units.

6. To com­plete one Leaf block, se­lect one E-F unit, one D square, three match­ing C squares and four A-B units to match C.

7. Ar­range and join two C squares with one A-B unit to make the cen­ter row as shown in Fig­ure 3; press.

8. Ar­range and join two A-B units with D to make the top row as shown in Fig­ure 4; press.

9. Ar­range and join one E-F unit with one C square and one A-B unit to make the bot­tom row as shown in Fig­ure 5; press.

10. Sew the cen­ter row be­tween the top and bot­tom rows as shown in Fig­ure 6 to com­plete one Leaf block; press. 11. Re­peat steps 6–10 to com­plete a to­tal of four Leaf blocks.

COM­PLET­ING THE QUILT

Re­fer to the As­sem­bly Di­a­gram as needed for all con­struc­tion steps.

1. Ar­range and join two Leaf blocks with a G strip to make a block row; press. Re­peat to make a sec­ond block row.

2. Sew an H square be­tween two G strips to make the sash­ing row; press.

3. Join the block rows with the sash­ing row to com­plete the pieced cen­ter; press.

4. Sew an I strip to op­po­site sides and J strips to the top and bot­tom of the pieced cen­ter; press.

5. Join seven as­sorted K squares and add an L square to each end to make a side strip; press. Re­peat to make a to­tal of four side strips.

6. Sew a side strip to op­po­site sides of the pieced cen­ter; press.

7. Add an M square to each end of the re­main­ing two side strips; press. Sew these strips to the top and bot­tom of the pieced cen­ter; press.

8. Sew N strips to op­po­site sides of the pieced cen­ter; press. Sew an M square to each end of each re­main­ing N strip; press. Sew these strips to the top and bot­tom of the pieced cen­ter; press.

9. Join 11 K squares to make a strip; sew an L square to each end to make a long side strip; press. Re­peat to make four long side strips.

10. Sew one long side strip to op­po­site sides of the pieced cen­ter; press.

11. Sew an M square to each end of each re­main­ing long side strip; press. Sew these strips to the top and bot­tom of the pieced cen­ter; press.

12. Sew O strips to op­po­site sides of the pieced cen­ter; press. Sew an M square to each end of each re­main­ing O strip; press. Sew these strips to the top and bot­tom of the pieced cen­ter to com­plete the quilt top; press.

13. Cre­ate a quilt sand­wich re­fer­ring to Quilt­ing Ba­sics on page 94. 14. Quilt as de­sired. 15. Bind edges re­fer­ring to Quilt­ing Ba­sics on page 94 to fin­ish.
