Some of Rap­pa­han­nock County High School English teacher Dar­lene Mathieson’s stu­dents trav­eled re­cently to Shenan­doah Na­tional Park, note­books in hand, to record their im­pres­sions of na­ture and to write po­etry or short es­says based on the ex­pe­ri­ence. “Shenan­doah Na­tional Park is the per­fect place for writ­ers,” Mathieson said. “Many of my stu­dents have said that they can­not write, or are not in­spired to write. Once on the moun­tain, a trans­for­ma­tion takes place.”
