Some of Rappahannock County High School English teacher Darlene Mathieson’s students traveled recently to Shenandoah National Park, notebooks in hand, to record their impressions of nature and to write poetry or short essays based on the experience. “Shenandoah National Park is the perfect place for writers,” Mathieson said. “Many of my students have said that they cannot write, or are not inspired to write. Once on the mountain, a transformation takes place.”
