STREET ACTION

- ADVANTAGE: SHORT-COURSE TRUCK

Wait, aren’t these off-road trucks? Yes, but as the kid speed-running your neighborhood will tell you, the most popular spot for RC anything is usually the street in front of the house (official warning: don’t play in traffic, kids). We hit an open parking lot to burn up the blacktop.

SLASH 4X4 The Slash’s SC tires offer a smaller contact patch that allows for slight spin and slide when bombing around the parking lot, but the truck was still easily controllable. It was pretty cool to watch the body lean when taking hard turns at speed, and that body lean helped increase traction and reduced push by way of weight transfer. It also helped when getting through the slalom course, and allowed the Slash to carry pretty good speed when attacking the cones.

STAMPEDE 4X4 The Stampede’s larger tires put a lot of rubber on the ground, and that gave it more traction than the Slash. When you combine that extra traction and higher center of gravity, you get wheelies when you mash the throttle and a truck that tips more easily in the turns if you aren’t careful. Anytime you are on power, the front end gets light and the tires don’t have as much grip, which causes the front end to push. The Stampede can be hustled through the cones quickly, but not at the same pace as the Slash.
