RECOIL Contributor Keith Wood Teams Up With Former SEAL Jack Carr to Create a Nail-Biting Thriller

While the name of Keith Wood might be familiar to longtime readers of our modest tome, Jack Carr is a newcomer. We have a sneaking suspicion, however, that the pair is about to become, if not household names, at least very familiar to avid consumers of the kind of plotdriven techno-thriller popularized by Tom Clancy.

Drawing on a symbiotic library of experience accumulated from 20 years in the SEALs (Carr) and a couple of decades in the firearms industry (Wood), the pair manage to assemble a cast of characters that spans the gamut from a tragically wronged, heroic protagonist to a cabal of traitorous political scumbags. Needless to say, the latter are dispatched in creatively gory ways, depicted in minute and (unusually for this type of tale) accurate detail by guys who actually know which end of a rifle the bullet comes out of. While other authors might have operational experience, or technical expertise, these guys not only have both but also live the kind of trigger-pulling lifestyle that makes their characters come to life.

The plot twists and turns from the mountains of Afghanistan to the deserts of California, and from Florida to its climactic end in the Hamptons, in an all-too-believable saga of betrayal, corruption, and vengeance. In equipping his hero for the task at hand, Carr figuratively backs his truck up to his team house cage in Coronado, then spits on his hands, rolls up his sleeves, and gets to work.

The book, like so many American success stories, came as result of two guys deciding that since no one told them they couldn’t do it, they might as well just go right ahead. “I didn’t want to lie on my deathbed wondering if I could have been an author,” Wood said. With a second book on the way and Hollywood superstar Chris Pratt snapping up the movie rights to the first, we’re pretty sure the world will be seeing a lot more from our dynamic duo. As RECOIL’s editor, watching them embark on this venture is like waving your kids off to college, knowing they’re on their way to great things. Just don’t forget to write, guys.

Not only do these guys have decent taste in guns, their vehicle game is on point.
