Free day of dentistry offered
CHESTER — The doctors and staff at Eastern Shore Dental Care will host the third annual Smiles From the Heart, an event providing free dental care, on April 16 at the practice in Kent Towne Market.
Numerous dentists, hygienists and office staff are volunteering their time and services for the daylong event. They hope to treat the at least 100 patients in the time allowed, according to Kerry Weber, director of marketing for the office.
A line is expected to form about 7 a.m.; and treatment begins at 8. The Smiles From the Heart event is open to patients age 16 and over and is limited to one service per patient. Patients will receive X-rays and an exam. They will be able to choose one of the following procedures: cleaning, extraction or filing.
The practice has eight treatment chairs, and those chairs will be filled all day long, Weber said.
This will be the third free day of dentistry offered by the practice, formerly known as Billings & Murphy, DDS, which has been in business on the Eastern Shore for more than 30 years. In May 2014, office held its first-ever free day of dentistry as a way to give back to the community. The event was a huge success, with more than 100 patients treated by the volunteer doctors and hygienists.
As the number of Ameri- cans without dental insurance continues to grow, Dr. Scott H. Billings and Dr. Christopher K. Murphy, along with their colleagues, recognize the need to continue hosting this event each year, Weber said.
Dr. Scott Billings and his assistant Jo Darby talk with Tanya Robinson of Grasonville about the work they did for her as part of the second annual Smiles from the Heart program in 2015. This year’s event is set for April 16.
