Government offices prepare for move to new building
CENTREVILLE — Many county and state employees are packing and labeling boxes as departments prepare to move both into and out of the Queen Anne’s County Liberty Building in Centreville.
Governmental phone numbers will remain the same, although phones services may be disrupted for a brief time during the time that a department is changing locations.
Offices affected by the move are Planning and Zoning, the State’s Attorney’s Office, the Board of Elections, Information Technology and Community Affairs.
As the completion of the new county office building off Railroad Avenue nears, the IT Department and Community Affairs, which includes QACTV and public information, will be the first to leave the Liberty Building and move into the new county office building, said Leslie Salvatori, community outreach specialist for Queen Anne’s County, that move is anticipated to take place in early May.
The Planning and Zoning Office, which had been paying about $190,000 annually in rent at the Coursevall Drive location, Salvatori said, is expected to move into the new county office building in mid-May. It is anticipated that Planning Commission and Animal Control Commission meetings will continue to be held at the old Coursevall Drive location through June.
In mid-May, the Board of Elections will move from the Commerce Street location into the new facility. Voting will not be affected because the dates for both the Primary and Early Voting are in April.
The State’s Attorney’s Office will move from the Commerce Street location into the basement of the Liberty Building in June.
Salvatori noted the buildings currently housing the State’s Attorney’s Office and Board of Elections are slated to be demolished sometime after the move, as they are on the building site of the planned new Queen Anne’s County Circuit Court House.
The new county office building project broke ground in October 2014. The structure is 18,394 square feet on the ground level and 5,398 square feet at the basement level.
The building will be accessed from an entrance off of Railroad Avenue, across from the Acme supermarket. The address is 110 Vincit Street, Centreville. Salvatori said, the street name, Vincit, is a nod to the county’s logo which includes the Latin phrase Vincit Omnia Veritas – Truth Conquers All Things.
