Big Brothers Big Sisters seeks bowlers
CHESTERTOWN — Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake is looking for teams and sponsors to participate in The Happy Hour Bowl on Saturday, April 23 at the Queen Anne Bowling Centre on Church Hill Road, presented by Delmarva Power.
The fundraiser will benefit the local Big Brothers Big Sisters affiliate. Big Brothers Big Sisters is a nonprofit, youth development organization committed to helping children reach their fullest potential through professionally supported, one-to-one mentoring relationships and a full range of youth mentoring programs with measurable impact, said Addie C. Cropper, outreach specialist.
“Our programs are tailored to the needs of the children and include educational and social activities that they would otherwise never experience. Research proves that through Big Brothers Big Sisters, children facing overwhelming odds can thrive and achieve long-term success with the support of positive adult role models. Matches in our program do things together such as ride bikes, go to the park, make food, play sports, etc.,” she said.
Cropper continued, “Fundraisers like Bowl For Kids’ Sake are what helps us support matches. It takes $1,200 to support a match for one year in our program. That includes criminal background checks, match support, match incentives and more. All the funds raised from these events will go back into our programs for youth.”
Bowl for Kids’ Sake still has openings for teams and sponsors. “We are doing our best to create teams to fundraise and bowl for this event, so if you have any co-workers you think might be interested, or friends or family, please pass the word around,” Cropper said.
To participate, a team of five is needed. Register online at www.biglittle.org/ shorebowl and collect donations online. Registration includes shoe rental, pizza, soda and an event t-shirt. There will be drink specials, trivia contests and chances to win prizes. All funds raised are used locally and donations are tax deductible.
